The fortress stands southeast of Van, on a spur of the Bol Mountains in the Gürpınar Plain. It consists of two sections: the Lower Fortress and the Upper Fortress, thirty metres above it.

The Upper Fortress contains a temple to the god Haldi and a temple to the Urartian god İrmuşini; having cult buildings for two separate gods distinguishes it from other Urartian fortresses.

The walls around the fortress span roughly 800 metres. Water cisterns carved into the bedrock and palace remains can be seen.

Getting there: at Çavuştepe in Gürpınar district, on the Van–Hakkâri–Iran road.
