Good to know
Your questions, answered.
The most frequently asked questions about stays, breakfast, transport and reservations; the answers are based on the hotel’s own information and on the sources named in them.
How can I make a booking?
You can send a booking request using the form on this site or call the hotel on 0432 503 09 09.
The form is a request: the hotel will inform you in writing of availability, the amount and the terms. The booking is established by this written confirmation from the hotel; submitting the request alone does not reserve a room.
Why are prices not shown on the site?
The room rate varies according to the season and occupancy. The business’s own wording is: “Fixed prices will vary according to the season and occupancy.” This is why no fixed price is published on the site.
The current price is provided in writing in the response to your booking request.
Can I also book through online travel sites?
Yes. The hotel works with online sales channels such as Booking.com, ETS Tur, Tatilbudur, Tatil Sepeti, Jolly Tur, Setur and Enuygun.
If you booked through a travel platform, cancellation and changes are subject to that platform’s own terms and must be made through that platform. The hotel cannot unilaterally change the terms of a booking it did not establish.
Does the quoted price include taxes?
Under Fiyat Etiketi Yönetmeliği (Price Labelling Regulation), the selling price quoted to you is the cash price inclusive of all taxes and is stated in Turkish lira. If a service charge or any other fee is to be charged in addition to the quoted price, that fee must also be shown on the list.
Accommodation tax appears on a separate line on your invoice: article 34 of Law 6802 requires the tax to be shown separately on invoices and similar documents issued by accommodation establishments. The same article also states that the tax is not included in the value added tax base.
Is identification required at check-in?
Every staying guest’s identity is recorded at check-in. This is not the hotel’s choice but a legal obligation: article 2 of Kimlik Bildirme Kanunu (Identity Notification Law), Law 1774, requires accommodation establishments to keep “daily records of the identity and arrival and departure of everyone, whether Turkish or foreign, in the prescribed format and manner”.
Article 9 of the same Law states that anyone who cannot prove their identity with valid official documents may not be accommodated at the property. In practical terms: carry a valid identity document or passport. For group stays, a separate record is kept for each person; if you make a booking for someone else, the person staying in the room must present their document at check-in.
How many rooms does the hotel have?
The hotel has 40 rooms and only one room type; there is nothing you need to choose.
How many people can stay in a room?
There is one room type: Standard Room. The rooms are suitable for single, double and triple occupancy.
There are two bed arrangements: a large double bed or two separate single beds. State which arrangement you would like in your booking request.
What is in the room?
Central air conditioning and heating, a television, free wireless internet, a wardrobe, a workspace, a room telephone and a hairdryer.
The bathroom has a shower, toilet and basic toiletries.
This list is based on the business’s own statement; no equipment that has not been declared is included.
What views do the rooms have?
The rooms have city views.
Is there a charge for internet access?
Wireless internet is free in the rooms and shared areas.
Is there an age limit for children?
Children of all ages are accepted; there is no age limit. Extra bed and child charges vary by booking channel and are stated in writing in your confirmation.
The form asks for each child’s age individually, rather than the number of children. The reason is that the family’s real question is “What will apply to my child?”, and the answer depends on age.
Are rooms cleaned every day?
Housekeeping is provided every day.
Where can I enter requests such as a preferred floor or a cot?
The booking form has a free-text note field of up to one thousand characters. Requests such as a preferred floor, bed arrangement, cot, rooms close together or late arrival are not restricted to fixed boxes; they are recorded as you write them.
If you use a wheelchair, have difficulty with thresholds or lifts, or need hearing or visual support, describe your needs in the same field. Reception checks each situation individually and replies in writing before the booking is established.
Is breakfast included in the room rate?
Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. Other food and drinks in the restaurant and café cost extra.
How is breakfast served?
Breakfast is served as a buffet in the city-facing dining room at Rua Teras Restaurant on the hotel’s top floor and is included in the room rate. The buffet also includes products from the Van region.
What is Van Kahvaltısı?
Van Kahvaltısı is a geographical indication of source registered with TÜRKPATENT (Turkish Patent and Trademark Office) under number 504; registration date 16 July 2020, registrant Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi (Van Yüzüncü Yıl University), geographical area Van province.
The register states that Van Kahvaltısı must include Van Otlu Peyniri, murtuğa, Van kavutu, clotted cream, butter, honey, rose jam, cacık and dishes prepared with eggs. Details are on the Breakfast and Restaurant page.
What does Van Kahvaltısı not include?
The registration also states this, verbatim: “Van Kahvaltısı does not include chips, salami, sausages, ham or varieties of börek.”
This sentence is the quickest way to tell whether a breakfast is Van Kahvaltısı. Börek is excluded, çörek is included: the two words are similar, but the registration excludes one and includes the other.
What is Van Otlu Peyniri?
A designation of origin registered with TÜRKPATENT (Turkish Patent and Trademark Office) under number 405; registration date 31 December 2018, geographical area Van and Hakkâri.
According to the register, six herbs are mandatory in the cheese: sirmo, mendo, heliz, wild mint, thyme and siyabo. Herbs must not exceed two per cent of the cheese’s weight; the register also gives the reason: a high proportion of herbs spoils the cheese’s appearance.
The cheese matures underground. The register gives two different maturation periods: “3–7 months” in the definition section and “at least 4 months and at most 7 months” in the production method section. We give both; we have not chosen one.
Which items in Van Kahvaltısı differ from what we are used to?
Van’s cacık is made with curd cheese rather than yoghurt: the curd cheese is mixed with chopped dill, green pointed peppers, coriander and, optionally, spring onions.
Clotted cream is made in large, shallow vessels called “lenger” and, in the register’s words, removed “carefully, without breaking it up”. Rose jam is made from two different roses: the jam rose provides its aroma and flavour, while the repeat-flowering rose called “Kral Gülü” gives it its characteristic colour.
Van Kavut is made from just one wheat variety: the register requires the flour to be made from local Tir wheat grown in Van.
What is the Guinness record for Van Kahvaltısı?
An outdoor breakfast event held in Van in June 2014 was attended by 51,793 people and entered Guinness Rekorlar Kitabı (Guinness Book of Records) as the world’s largest gathering at a meal. This is stated in the register itself. The record belongs to the city.
Do you accept group bookings?
Yes. The hotel is suitable for group stays and cultural tours; as all forty rooms are the same type, there is no issue of choosing rooms within a group. The deciding factors are numbers and dates.
Dinner is provided for groups. Send your group request with the number of guests, dates and meal requirements; you will receive a written response.
Can I hold a meeting at the hotel?
The hotel has meeting and event spaces. Room layout, capacity and equipment are provided in writing according to your request.
The venue’s guest capacity and event prices are not listed on this site: each event is priced separately according to the date, number of guests and menu.
Do you host civil weddings, henna nights, engagement parties or graduation events?
The business states that it caters for private events such as meetings, civil weddings, henna nights, engagements and graduations. Regional and international cuisine menu options are available for private meetings and family meals.
Send your request with the date and number of guests; availability, layout and menu will be provided in writing.
Is dinner provided for groups?
Dinner is provided for groups; buffet dinners are arranged on request. Write with the date and number of guests; the menu and arrangements will be provided in writing.
Does the hotel have a car park?
The hotel has no car park of its own. There is a multi-storey car park near the hotel.
Where exactly is the hotel?
The hotel is in the city centre, in Van’s İpekyolu district. There are restaurants, a bazaar, banks and public institutions nearby.
We do not give distances in kilometres from the hotel on this page; the sources disagree. Instead, we provide a directions link to the hotel’s map listing — it works independently of how the address is written and is on the Location and Transport page.
How do I get from the airport to the city?
Van Ferit Melen Havalimanı (Van Ferit Melen Airport) is in Edremit district. Van Büyükşehir Belediyesi (Van Metropolitan Municipality) operates route 126, “Beşyol – Havalimanı – Bölge Hastanesi – Maraş Caddesi” (Beşyol – Airport – Regional Hospital – Maraş Avenue), between the airport and the city.
The municipality says the published times are scheduled departure times and may change due to weather, traffic, roadworks, breakdowns or accidents. We therefore do not list service times on this site: check the municipality’s own page for current times. A taxi is needed for flights arriving in the evening.
I am arriving by intercity coach. Where is the bus station?
Van Otogarı (Van Bus Station) is in İstasyon Mahallesi, on Özalp Yolu. Routes to Gevaş and Muradiye districts also depart from the bus station.
The route between the bus station and the centre runs only twice a day and does not operate at weekends; details are on the Location and Transport page.
Can I get to Van by train?
No passenger train goes directly to Van; there is the Ankara–Tatvan route followed by the Lake Van ferry.
When buying a ticket, select “Tatvan Gar”, not “Van Gar”, as the arrival station. Details are on the Location and Transport page.
How do I use city buses?
Belvan Kart is used on city buses in Van; it is issued in three types — full fare, reduced fare and free travel — and is valid within Van province.
Where to buy it and how to top it up are explained on the Location and Transport page. For transport questions, the municipality’s call centre number is 444 44 65.
I am planning a weekend trip. Do the buses run?
Some city bus routes in Van do not run at weekends. The municipality’s service pages state that the Çavuştepe–Zernek–Hoşap route (117) does not run at weekends, the Van Castle route (336) does not run on Sundays, the Otogar–Büyükşehir Belediyesi (Bus Station–Metropolitan Municipality) route (OB-650) does not run on Saturdays or Sundays, and the Beşyol–Campus route (541) does not run at weekends.
There is a real pitfall: Van Kedisi Araştırma Merkezi (Van Cat Research Centre) is open seven days a week, but the route serving it does not run at weekends. If you are planning a trip on Saturday or Sunday, check the route to your destination in advance.
Is there a waterbus on Lake Van?
The municipality’s waterbus services are not currently operating; the notice is quoted verbatim on the Location and Transport page.
Do not plan a boat trip on Lake Van around this route. Separate boats departing from Gevaş pier provide the crossing to Akdamar Island. For the current status, you can call the municipality’s call centre on 444 44 65.
I am arriving by road from Iran. Is there a time difference?
The nearest border crossing to Van is Kapıköy. Kapıköy Sınır Kapısı (Kapıköy Border Crossing) is in Van’s Saray district, on the Türkiye–Iran border; a railway line also passes through the crossing.
The time difference is fixed throughout the year: Türkiye is in the UTC+3 time zone (daylight saving has not been used since 2016), and Iran is in the UTC+3:30 time zone (daylight saving was abolished in 2022). Iran is therefore thirty minutes ahead of Türkiye: when it is 09:00 in Van, it is 09:30 in Tebriz and Tahran. Calculate flight, bus and appointment times according to Türkiye time.
Who should I call in an emergency?
Emergency calls in Türkiye use a single number: 112. According to İçişleri Bakanlığı (Ministry of the Interior), this number brings together calls to the police, gendarmerie, fire service, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) and Sahil Güvenlik (Coast Guard); medical calls are also handled through 112 Acil Sağlık (112 Emergency Medical Services).
The Ministry’s HAYAT 112 app allows users to send photos and short videos and share their location automatically, alongside voice calls. To find a duty pharmacy, you can call 112 or use the pharmacy search service of Türk Eczacıları Birliği (Turkish Pharmacists’ Association); duty lists change daily, so check before setting off.
For calls about city services, the number for Van Büyükşehir Belediyesi (Van Metropolitan Municipality) is 444 44 65.
What should I bring to Van, and what is the weather like?
Van city centre’s altitude is recorded as 1,728 metres. This altitude affects two aspects of the weather: conditions are cooler and drier than in cities at sea level, with stronger solar radiation; and the difference between daytime and night-time temperatures is large.
According to Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü (General Directorate of Meteorology) averages for the Van station over 1939–2025, the average minimum temperature between November and March ranges from 0.5 degrees to minus 7.4 degrees; during this period, a thick coat, scarf, beanie, gloves and waterproof shoes with non-slip soles are needed. The greatest recorded snow depth is 120 centimetres.
April and October are transition months: daytime temperatures are 13 to 17.5 degrees, nights 2.7 to 5.8 degrees — dressing in layers is best. In June, July and August, daytime temperatures are 24 to 28.6 degrees and nights 11 to 14.8 degrees; bring a light extra layer for the evening, even in midsummer. March and April are the wettest months; bring a raincoat or umbrella.
Are payments taken on this site?
This site takes no payments and does not ask for card details. The form you submit is a booking request; the hotel responds to your request in writing.
The form does not ask for a card number, expiry date, security code or bank details; there is no such field anywhere on the site. If you receive a message referring to this site and asking for your card details, that message is not from us.
I need a corporate invoice. How does that work?
The hotel issues the invoice at the end of your stay; this site does not issue invoices or collect payments. If you need a corporate invoice, tick the box on the form and enter the organisation’s name.
For an invoice to be issued in the organisation’s name, article 230 of Vergi Usul Kanunu (Tax Procedure Law) requires the following details: the customer’s name, trading name, address and, where applicable, tax office and account number. Provide these details in your reply to the hotel’s written response, rather than in the request form; this keeps your tax details out of a public request form.
What is the record page that opens after I submit a request?
The record that opens after you submit your request is not a confirmation. It is your copy of the request: it shows the dates, number of guests, number of rooms and note you entered. You can print it, take a screenshot or send it to your accounts department.
A copy of the record is not sent to your email address; printing or saving it before closing the page will therefore make things easier for you.
As it contains personal data, the record page is not cached and is blocked from search engines. The key in the address is the key to the record: sharing the key also shares the record.
What is there to see in Van?
In and around the city centre: Van Castle and the Old City of Van, Akdamar Island and the Church of the Holy Cross, Çavuştepe Castle, Hoşap Castle, Muradiye Waterfall, Van Kedisi Araştırma Merkezi (Van Cat Research Centre) and the Lake Van shore.
All sixteen sites, with their dates and current status, are on the Explore Van page.
Is Van Müzesi (Van Museum) open?
On the day sources were reviewed for this site, the museum’s official page displayed the notice “Closed to visitors for display arrangement and construction repair works”, and its status was listed as “Closed” in the Ministry’s admission fee table. No reopening date had been announced.
The status may have changed: check muze.gov.tr before coming.
How do I get to Akdamar Island?
The island is within Gevaş district; boats cross to it from Gevaş pier. The municipality’s interurban district routes run towards Gevaş.
The building now operates as Van Akdamar Anıt Müzesi (Van Akdamar Monument Museum); with Ministry permission, it also opens for worship on certain days. We do not give departure times or journey durations because no official boat timetable has been published.
Is there an admission charge for museums and archaeological sites?
According to the Ministry’s fee schedule, entry to Çavuştepe Castle and Hoşap Castle is free. Akdamar Anıt Müzesi (Akdamar Monument Museum) and Van Castle charge admission; holders of a T.C. kimlik kartı (Republic of Türkiye identity card) enter with Müzekart.
We do not list any admission fees on this site: the fee table we have does not state an effective date, and the fees change every year. For current fees, see the own page of DÖSİM (Central Directorate of Revolving Fund Operations).
Where can I see a Van Kedisi?
At Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Van Kedisi Araştırma Merkezi (Yüzüncü Yıl University Van Cat Research Centre). The centre is on the university’s Zeve Campus.
You can write to the centre for visiting hours and admission fees: vankedisi@yyu.edu.tr. We do not list the hours or fees because the centre’s own two pages disagree. Route 541 to the campus does not run at weekends.
Where can I buy Van Otlu Peyniri?
People go to Tarihî Peynirciler Çarşısı (Historic Cheesemongers’ Market) in the city centre for Van Otlu Peyniri and breakfast products; the market is on PTT Caddesi, behind Cumhuriyet Caddesi. The city’s breakfast restaurants are concentrated on Kahvaltıcılar Sokağı (Breakfast Restaurants Street), on Cumhuriyet Caddesi.
You can use the registration as a benchmark when buying: Van Otlu Peyniri is registered with TÜRKPATENT (Turkish Patent and Trademark Office) under number 405 as a designation of origin; the registration requires six herbs and limits their proportion to two per cent of the cheese’s weight. According to the sensory description in the registration, its colour ranges from white to yellowish, and its broken surface can be glassy, smooth and shiny.
