Traces of an urban fabric around 800 years old can be seen in the Old City of Van.

Ulu Mosque is thought to have been built in the Seljuk and Ahlatşah periods, under Sökmen I or II. It has a rectangular plan with a dome in front of the mihrab; the section of its brick minaret above the balcony has collapsed.

Construction of Kaya Çelebi Mosque began in 1660 and was completed in 1663; it is built of dressed stone in two colours. The mosque inscription at Hüsrev Paşa Complex dates to 1567–68, and its tomb to 1587.

Excavation and restoration work begun at the site in 2024 is continuing.

Getting there: in the area south of Van Fortress; it can be seen as part of a fortress visit.
